Blizzard auctions WoW servers for charity
Blizzard will be holding its final auction of retired EU server blades on eBay, with all proceeds donated to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Video Gamer reports.
The auction runs from 23 to 30 January, and lets those interested bid on one of World of Warcraft's (WoW's) old self-contained servers, which have since been upgraded.
According to Engadget, the company is offering up 2 000 HP p-Class blades that were recently retired when it upgraded its backend hardware.
The blades have been fitted with a clear case bearing the WoW logo and a plaque featuring a slew of developer signatures.
“World of Warcraft realms are like the virtual neighbourhoods of the game's community. They contain the spaces where millions of players have made friendships, forged friendly rivalries, and created lasting memories,” The Telegraph quotes Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, as saying.
“Each winner in this auction will own a small monument to those collective experiences. The best part is that this auction benefits a great charity doing tremendous work in helping children from the US and around the world.”
