Blue Label Telecoms has appointed Jerry Vilakazi as a non-executive director.
The company recently bought back Microsoft's 12% stake in the company, which led to Microsoft SA MD Mteto Nyati no longer having a seat on the board as an independent director.
On Friday, the company told shareholders Vilakazi would take up an independent seat, with immediate effect. Vilakazi is the executive chairman of the Palama Group of companies, which he co-founded.
Vilakazi also chairs Netcare, the Mpumalanga Gambling Board, Trubok and ExecuPrime Holdings. He holds directorships in Pretoria Portland Cement, Goliath Gold Mining, General Health Group (UK), Tower Group, Kazzi Corporate Wear and the Black Management Forum Investments Company.
Blue Label says Vilakazi was recently appointed by President Jacob Zuma to the National Planning Commission and the B-BBEE Advisory Council.
Blue Label Telecoms provides prepaid vouchers for products such as electricity and airtime.
