Blue Label pays tribute to moms

Johannesburg, 11 May 2012

In the spirit of Mothers' Day, celebrated this Sunday, prepaid telecommunications firm Blue Label Telecoms has announced it will introduce a product specifically aimed at benefiting expecting moms.

According to the JSE-listed company, the Baby Bonus Starter Pack for mobile phones - to be released in early June - will give new mothers R1 000 back in cash at the end of their pregnancy. “[Upon purchase] the starter pack will be loaded with a R1 000 benefit, which can be claimed back in cash once a mother has given birth. The claim will be subject to qualifying criteria, such as a minimum airtime spend of R50 per month for six consecutive months during [the expecting mother's] pregnancy.”

Blue Label's head of investor and media relations, Michael Campbell, says the company made the move in response to the plight of many mothers in today's social and economic climate. “We wanted to show them that there is some relief out there.”

Joint CEO of Blue Label Brett Levy says the company aspires to recognise the vital role that women - “especially moms” - play in personal and professional lives.

“Having a baby adds to one's financial stresses, and we think that by taking up this product, pregnant women will have one less worry. In this way we can help strengthen mom's family life and in turn add to the fabric of our community.”

Campbell says the specially-marked 'Baby Bonus' starter packs will be available at all the company's affiliate vendors, including Ackermans, Clicks, Metcash, Mr Price, PEP, Pick 'n Pay, Shoprite and Spar.
