Blue Label ups voucher stakes

JSE-listed Blue Label Telecoms has added another product to its prepaid voucher portfolio - what it calls a “lifestyle-enabling” product.

Blue Label's distribution arm has partnered with South African National Lotto operator, Gidani, and Lidonga Technologies to create the technical ability for consumers to buy Lotto tickets on their cellphones.

The PlaySALottery voucher enables consumers to purchase a voucher at Blu Approved stores and other major retail outlets, top up their online mobile wallet and instantly play the Lotto.

Blue Label Distribution CEO, Werner van Reenen, says the PlaySALottery is a natural fit for the company as the technology platform is already in existence, through Blue Label's airtime distribution to 150 000 points of presence across SA. “It complements our Blu Approved bouquet of products and services available to customers and merchants.”

Phillip Suckerman, sales and marketing director from Lidonga Technology, says it was important for the lottery group to find the right partner that would be able to provide the technological capability and distribution platform to create and distribute the electronic recharge voucher for the national Lotto.

“And now, through Blue Label Distribution, we are able to make PlaySALottery prepaid vouchers available to all those that want to play Lotto from their cellphone, without queuing for hours waiting to buy and play.”

PlaySALottery is a prepaid voucher that is used to top up a mobile wallet, which in turn will be used to purchase virtual Lotto tickets. The vouchers, which are vended in the same way as airtime, are denominated in R25 and R50, and are available at selected Shell, Spar and Blu Approved outlets nationwide.
