Using simple, universal, short-range wireless connectivity, the new Bluetooth PC Card II from IBM gives mobile users the power to create their own personal area network (PAN).
The card will soon be available from Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of JSE-listed MB Technologies.
"Users can now employ a cellular phone to connect to the Internet, synchronise their PC and PDA, send an electronic business card or transfer files to another PC without the use of cables," explains Warren Small, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies.
The Bluetooth PC Card II is Bluetooth 1.1-compliant and enables wireless PAN connectivity by linking a ThinkPad notebook to other products making use of Bluetooth wireless technology.
Tarsus Technologies also introduces the IBM Bluetooth UltraPort Module. This device fits into the UltraPort connector at the top of the display on certain ThinkPad models, but supports simple convenient connection to a standard USB port on notebooks that do not feature an UltraPort connector.
The Bluetooth PC Card II as well as the Bluetooth UltraPort Module, feature software that facilitates ease-of-use and discovery of other Bluetooth devices. "This software is simple to install and supports the Bluetooth 1.1 specification for interoperability," adds Small.
