BMC aims to predict and solve system problems before they arise

Johannesburg, 04 Aug 2000

BMC Software, represented locally by CCH Enterprise Solutions, has announced Patrol for Prediction and Capacity Management, a systems management solution that forecasts and helps correct performance issues. This offering from BMC`s Patrol 2000 product line allows users to test solutions to performance problems before committing funds to an unproven solution, says Reg Swart, BMC product manager at local distributor CCH Enterprise Solutions.

"Almost every company encounters situations where predictive modelling and analysis of changes in business usage or hardware can help problem solving and, more importantly, problem prevention," says Swart. "Predictive modelling makes it possible to deliver stable IT performance and meet service level agreements (SLAs)."

Whether trying to eliminate the overload that almost shut down a new payroll system or developing a marketing campaign aimed at driving 50% more traffic to a website, accurate prediction of optimum system resources is critical to a business`s success.

Patrol for Prediction and Capacity Management gives customers the ability to pose "what-if" questions, providing a precise view of how business changes will impact application and system performance. This eliminates guesswork and allows solutions to be tested and deployed with the least disruption possible to daily business. Patrol`s predictive modelling capabilities can be applied to most applications or databases. By helping IT professionals determine if, and when, system upgrades will be necessary to maintain service levels and identifying overall system inefficiencies, Patrol helps customers maximise ROI.

"This is a solution that automatically notifies you of potential performance issues before they arise," adds Swart. "Patrol for Prediction and Capacity Management predicts the impact that changes in business demand will have on performance - both in utilisation and response time - preventing problems before they occur by allowing users to plan ahead."
