ICT research firm BMI-TechKnowledge has formed a strategic alliance with Civitium, a US-based consultancy on municipal broadband and digital city initiatives.
The announcement follows the firms` collaboration on the recent Digital Cities Forum, held in Midrand earlier this month.
"BMI-T`s alliance with Civitium is an important milestone in the emerging digital cities market, providing, for the first time, market-leading consulting, industry research, publications and conferences and events to benefit communities in the region," says BMI-T MD Denis Smit.
The companies define a digital city as a community where ICT is applied to promote economic development, digital inclusion and more efficient government.
BMI-T says the firms will collaborate on the joint delivery of consulting services, research, publications and conferences, all with the aim of enabling African communities to transform into digital cities.
Headed by Greg Richardson, one of the speakers at the Midrand conference, Civitium has been involved in some high-profile digital cities initiatives in the US.
