BMW adds Pandora Radio service
Owners of 2011 and 2012 model-year BMWs are able to use the online streaming service, which is part of the BMW Connected system.
The application allows iPhone and iPod Touch owners to access Twitter, Facebook and now Pandora via the controls in their car.
According to All Car Tech, bringing Pandora service into the cars is as simple as downloading it to its host iPhone. Once it's installed and configured and the phone plugged into the USB port, drivers can use existing controls on the dash and steering wheel to navigate to Pandora as one of their music choices.
The integration will also allow users to shuffle through music, choose custom channels and bookmark certain tracks, all via the same car controls.
Pandora is offered through Ford's SYNC service, and it's one of five apps that will make their on-screen debut in Toyota's Entune service, which arrives first in the 2012 Toyota Prius V wagon later this year.
According to Stephen Durach, the director of the BMW Group Technology Office, the seamless integration of a highly desired service like Pandora demonstrates the enormous potential of the new BMW Apps, reports Motor Trend.
Durach adds that BMW chose to offer Pandora for BMW Apps to make the program easy to access and safer to use while driving.
The BMW Apps feature costs an additional $250 and is only available on BMW models produced from March 2011 onward. As the first third-party app to be approved for BMW Apps, Pandora will likely pave the way for other apps on BMW's system.
