Boeing isn`t dropping Baan

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 1997

A story in last week`s InformationWeek (25 August, US edition) reported that Boeing was dropping Baan`s enterprise resource planning from its Corinth, Texas, operations.

"The decision, according to sources, is cost-related, though it may have more to do with Boeing`s acquisition of McDonnell Douglas Corp.," reported InformationWeek.

According to Boeing Commercial Airplane Group the article led many media and analysts to conclude that Boeing had wavered in their commitment to Baan and the original agreement signed in 1994 - which is not the case.

"Implementation is proceeding within Boeing Commercial Airplane Group to install Baan enterprise applications, with all parts plants complete by year end. When the entire project is complete, Baan will be in use at all sites, on 40,000+ workstations, and with about 45,000+ users," says Bob Hammer, Vice President of Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, in a letter to InformationWeek editor Bob Evans.

To set the record straight, the Baan Company issued a press release which states that "on account of Boeing`s merger with McDonnell Douglas, Boeing has chosen to suspend a project at a Corinth, Texas, facility. This has no impact on, or relation to, the Baan implementation at Boeing Commercial Airplane Group."
