BoE`s critical applications run on IBM Netfinity servers

Johannesburg, 03 Feb 1999

Independent investment banking organisation, BoE Limited has purchased 12 Netfinity servers from IBM citing the range`s flexibility, scalability and reliability as the deciding factors.

"The price/performance ratio influenced our decision too, but the reliability factor was of primary concern to us," says Bradley Mehl, assistant general manager of IT at BoE.

"BoE run many distributed, mission-critical applications on the Netfinity range, including our Portfolio Management system, Mail, Contact Management, Unit Trust and Asset Management systems. As you can see, these applications are mission critical to our organisation, thus our decision to choose the Nefinity range for its reliability," Mehl says.

BoE is currently running 4 Netfinity 3500 and 8 Netfinity 5500; all are rack-mounted.

"Configuration of the machines differs: some are RAID 0-5 depending on the application it is running. Memory also varies between 128 to 518MB with disk sub-systems up to 45GB," says Mehl.

BoE purchased the Netfinity servers through ULT, an IBM Business Partner.

BoE Limited is an independent investment banking organisation with substantial representation in the full range of financial services including banking, life assurance, asset management and strategic investments.
