Acer has announced the local availability of a compact 8-bay, RAID storage system, offering reliable SCSI-to-SCSI RAID data protection at a low total cost of ownership. The AccuRAID S900 is also operating system (OS) independent, ensuring inter-operability with multi-platform server environments.
Hilton Haefele, networking product manager at Acer, says this 2U storage system is designed with redundancy to protect valuable stored data. "It offers multiple RAID level support, two hot-swappable power supplies, hot-swappable system fans and up to eight hot-swappable SCSI hard disk drives."
The entry-level market for DAS storage products is demanding more functionality and more data throughput. "With the latest AccuRAID we`ve met these market demands by providing performance, reliability and faster throughput - all at an affordable price," he adds.
The compact AccuRAID`s front panel LCD display gives a concise readout of the operating environment including controller(s), hard disk drives, fans, temperature and power supply status.
Functional system status LEDs, located on the front panel and next to each hard disk drive, make monitoring the system a quick and painless process. Haefele adds that an advanced back-plane design, cable-free from RAID controller to hard disk drives, increases performance by escalating the stability of the data being transferred.
The AccuRAID S900 features the Intel 80303 64-bit RISC processor, while also offering a fast PCI interface for greater data throughput. The product provides numerous fault tolerant features to protect data in the event of failure. "If one power supply fails, an alarm will sound and the remaining power supply will assume full command of the system. Should a drive fail, the system can be configured to automatically assign a global hot-spare or automatically rebuild the drive, all without needing to take the system off line," explains Haefele.
