Borland delivers first Web services interactive training course

Johannesburg, 20 Feb 2002

Borland Software Corporation today announced the availability of a new interactive course, "RADical Web Services for e-Business," the industry`s first e-learning solution designed for enterprise customers to quickly become productive with Web services.

The new, interactive training course is offered in multimedia CD-ROM format as a step-by-step instructional program designed to enable users to rapidly learn how to develop and implement Web services applications using Borland solutions. This offering extends Borland`s e-Learning Series for Enterprise Development featuring courses on Java, Windows and Linux technologies.

IDC, a leading industry research firm, predicts that the corporate online/e-learning training market will double in size year over year and reach $11.5 billion by 2003. A recent study by Evans Data Corporation showed 70% of developers surveyed believe Web services represent the "future of Internet applications," underscoring the need for a comprehensive Web services training course.

Unlike products that are text- and graphics-based, Borland`s e-learning solutions feature rich, engaging multimedia animation, and the ability for users to test their knowledge after each lesson directly in the development environment.

"Web services deliver on the promise of the Internet as a platform for quickly and easily connecting customers, partners and suppliers," commented Manoli Rodokanakis, Country Manager of Borland Southern Africa. "Borland was first to deliver Web services solutions for the Windows and Linux platforms, and now with the first interactive training course for Web services implementation, Borland continues to provide its leadership in Web services for enterprises of all sizes."

The "RADical Web Services for e-Business" training course was written by Alain "Lino" Tadros of Kazoo Software and developed by Borland and Referentia Systems, a leader in advanced e-learning products. The courses are easy-to-follow, self-paced tutorials with hands-on exercises that are designed to teach users how to seamlessly connect applications, business processes, customers, partners, and suppliers -- anywhere in the world. The course also teaches how to leverage the latest industry-standard technologies and protocols for Web Services application development, including SOAP, XML, WSDL, and UDDI.

Web services: Delivering on the promise of the Internet

Web services are business processes that can be discovered and run over the Internet using standard technologies. By using Web services, companies can easily connect applications using standard XML formats over standard Internet protocols to virtually any client, including desktop applications, Web browsers, mobile devices, and PDAs.

Similarly, Web services easily interconnect applications from completely different hardware platforms, such as mainframes, application servers, and Web servers; Web services also support connections among disparate operating systems such as Windows, Java, Linux and Unix. Web services enable developers to build e-business applications that can connect with customers, suppliers and business partners anywhere in the world, regardless of the chosen platform or programming language.
