Borland Enterprise Server Compatible with complete J2EE 1.3 standard

Johannesburg, 07 Mar 2002

Borland Software Corporation today announced that the Borland Enterprise Server is certified as Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3-compatible. This certification illustrates Borland`s continued adherence to industry standards, enabling customers to increase productivity and deliver high-performance projects faster, while lowering their total cost of ownership.

J2EE 1.3 defines the standard and simplifies the process of creating and deploying multi-tier enterprise applications, including Web Services. J2EE offers numerous benefits, including "Write Once, Run Anywhere" portability, CORBA technology for application integration, and full support for Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) components.

"Again staying true to its commitment to standards, Borland continues to demonstrate its leadership by fully implementing the J2EE specification in their shipping products," said Ralph Galantine, marketing product line manager, J2EE at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Borland Enterprise Server also builds on the standard with additional interoperability features and Web Services functionality expected from an industry leader."

"Borland continues to empower enterprise developers with a compatible development and deployment offering for rich EJB components-based applications," said Manoli Rodokanakis, Country Manager for Borland Southern Africa. "Borland Enterprise Server`s unique Application Server Partitioning technology separates our solution from the pack and offers the scalability and performance required for today`s demanding enterprises."

The J2EE compatible Borland Enterprise Server is tightly integrated with Borland JBuilder, the market leading Java development environment, offering enterprises a complete development and deployment platform for large-scale applications. Borland Enterprise Server features unique Application Server Partitioning that dramatically enhances the reliability, scalability, and manageability of applications. This technology can support hundreds of applications running on a single server and aims to dramatically reduce the cost of hardware, application server licenses, database server requirements, and application downtime. The robust application server provides a solid architecture for running and deploying Web Services and is an ideal platform to connect and host both newly developed and existing Web Services. Borland Enterprise Server is also integrated with SonicMQ 3.5, an industry-leading Java Messaging Service (JMS), to enable enterprises to deliver business-critical data across incompatible systems.
