Bowline Fulfilment recently received the retail distribution rights for the Maths Centre`s selected learner and teacher support materials for grades R, 1, & 2, as well as its two CD-ROM products.
The learner and support materials (books) and two CD-ROMs are outcomes-based and the emphasis is on conceptualising mathematics content in an interesting manner relevant to the South African context. Each book and CD covers all five learning outcomes and includes assessment activities.
The Maths Centre is a knowledge-based organisation that is continually producing products tailored to meet the requirements of educators, learners and Departments of Education. The Maths Centre, with qualified staff members nationwide, has assisted in the research and development of high quality products and services. Products are approved by provincial Departments of Education.
Maths Centre learner support materials are designed to meet the outcomes-based education requirements. All materials are colourful, durable, developed for Grades R-12, and can be bought as kits or as individual components. Maths Centre learner support materials make learning come alive in mathematics for the learners and educators alike.
"Our resource materials engage learners in mathematics learning in such a way that it is interesting and experiences relevant to daily life as well as applicable in business," says Sharanjeet Shan, National Executive Director of the Maths Centre for Professional Teachers. "It develops thinking skills that enhances the learning of mathematics. The aim is to increase the number of learners taking mathematics at FET level and those achieving a higher grade in Maths."
Maths Centre teacher support materials are produced with an intense focus on making mathematics content accessible, engaging teachers and learners with the concepts as tools to be used. Shan says the ultimate aim is to increase the number of properly qualified mathematics teachers in line with norms and standards in education. All training manuals are written in accordance with NQF guidelines and are prepared for submission to the relevant accreditation bodies.
CD-ROMs
Maths Centre CD-ROMs are educational and fun, interactive computer activities, covering concepts within all five learning outcomes of the RNCS, organised into themes celebrating the diversity of the South African environment. The CDs are accompanied with a complete teacher/parent guide with hints and more activities.
The Maths Centre`s vision is to be a centre of excellence in mathematics and education for equipping teachers and learners with materials and programmes in order to develop a higher competency and performance in mathematics.
