Brazil Soccer signs contract for SA technology

World Cup breakthrough for SA company?
Johannesburg, 09 Nov 2005

The South African company DexSecurity Solutions (DSS) has made a significant breakthrough that could place South African technology in the centre of the next Soccer World Cup tournament in South Africa.

Dex has signed a Safe Venue contract with Sports Club Internacional, the most popular soccer club in Rio Grande. It comprises the same stadium access control technology that was used during the Cricket World Cup in South Africa. All indications are that more contracts will be signed in the foreseeable future.

DexSecurity Solutions also had to respond to enquiries from the US, the UK, Turkey, Sudan, Ghana, Botswana and Brazil about a unique stadium control system. SC Internacional is, however, the first soccer club to sign a contract for the South African technology of the Dex SafeVenue Stadium Management Solution. DexBrasil and DexSecurity Solutions, a South African based company, form part of the international Dex Group of companies.

SC Internacional owns the stadium known as Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with an official capacity of 56 000 - although the record turnout was 106 554, says Marcelo Monaco, CEO of DexBrasil.

According to Johann M"uller, Chairman of the Dex Group of Companies, several other stadiums in Brazil are considering proposals for SafeVenue and he believes they will soon be placing orders for this South African technology.

"It will undoubtedly focus on the fact again that South Africa already has the technology and management systems for any big international events, such as the Soccer World Cup," he says.

SC Internacional has one of the best structures for the development of young Brazilian soccer talent and has produced some of the world`s best soccer players, like the goalkeeper Taffarel and central midfielder F'abio Rochemback, now playing at Sporting Lisbon. The first match of the new season will be early in January 2006.

"The Dex product development director has left for Brazil to do the detailed planning for this installation together with DexBrasil," says M"uller.

"The Dex SafeVenue Stadium Management Solution has been proven over three cricket seasons in South Africa. A pilot installation of SafeVenue was demonstrated successfully at Volta Redondo stadium in Rio de Janeiro earlier this year. This was followed by a successful installation of a portable application of SafeVenue at an agricultural expo in Porto Alegre," says Marcelo Monaco.

Negotiations are in an advanced stage between Dex and the organisers of more fairs and exhibitions, where mobile turnstiles will be used to control the access of up to 400 000 people who visit such events.
