Computer giant Silicon Graphics has facilitated the world's first collaboration between two independent industry leaders, both leading vendors in the storage industry, in order to resell a wider selection of complete storage management solutions. The two companies that have joined in this strategic partnership are EMC Corporation and Ciprico. This announcement means that customers are no longer limited to one single product from one computer vendor. Instead they have a choice of complete high-performance market-specific storage solutions, from storage consulting services, through implementation to post-sales support -- all obtainable from Silicon Graphics as a single supply source. "Once again Silicon Graphics is in the forefront of an industry breakthrough," says James Chiweshe, MD of Silicon Graphics sub-Saharan Africa. "This strategic partnership marks the first time that top vendors who are normally in competition have elected to work with each other to offer customers a broader and more powerful choice of products to suit their needs."Leading storage solutions will be added to the Silicon Graphics Origin server family and Onyx 2 graphics systems, allowing customers to select from a broad range of options and obtain high-quality service and support from one vendor. The cache-coherent Non-Uniform Memory Access (cc-NUMA) Origin servers will provide high-speed storage functionality for high-bandwidth applications.Combined with Origin servers, EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and software will provide customers in key markets with a powerful enterprise-class solution. In addition, the relationship between Ciprico's RAID 3 Disk Arrays products and Silicon Graphics systems will lead to the technical, scientific and creative markets being able to substantially increase their performance and capacity.
