Brocade eyes networking sweet spot

vendor Brocade is attempting to claw business from Cisco's customer heartland, with the promise of up to 50% savings for large users, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The oft-quoted marketing axiom that 'no one ever got fired for buying IBM' made its way into the common parlance in the early days of the IT industry.

According to V3.co.uk, the firm said its products will meet the growing need among such firms to rising traffic volumes on their networks while making it as simple as possible for IT staff to manage the and the technology underneath.

The two products are the ICX 6430 and 6450, with either 24 or 48 ports that can be stacked to create as many as 384 ports with 1Gb Ethernet connections, with both 1GB and 10GB uplink capabilities available, too.

“The market is dominated by Cisco for many reasons - they have a very strong organisation and [their offering to clients is] based on lots of features and complicated software load,” Data Center Dynamics quotes Marcus Jewell, Brocade UK and Ireland manager, as saying.

“And when the challenger HP came to market, it had a really good price point, it was trying to commoditise the edge of the data network.”
