Silverton, Tswane - As part of Brother International South Africa's social responsibility programme, the company encourages staff members to get involved and to recommend appropriate charitable establishments and organisations within the greater Tswane community. One such establishment is the Silversig retirement home, in Jasmyn Street, Silverton,Pretoria. Silversig provides 24-hour frail care and medical support to 150 elderly people who are either impoverished or physically or mentally challenged.
Brother donated three 42-inch HD flat-screen televisions and decoders to the retirement home to replace the one existing television set in the three-storey building. Now each floor has its own colour television, with 18 channels, to accommodate the residents who are mostly confined to wheelchairs or who have limited mobility.
The Silversig retirement home is focused on improving the quality of life of the elderly in the Silverton community, by providing a daily meal, health services, personal care and security as well as providing a social environment. Silversig receives very little state support and relies on donations from local churches and schools to provide for the residents. Residents in turn rely on their government pensions and have to make do with an average of R30 per month pocket money.
Please contact Rina Lubbe on 012 804 8066 if you can contribute in any way to the residents of Silversig.
