Brother Industries Ltd. was established in Japan in 1934 as an enterprise to manufacture and distribute sewing machines. Today, it`s line of products includes not only sewing machines for home and industrial use, but also machine tools, information and communications equipment such as printers, facsimile machines and multi function centers. Brother has expanded its business operations worldwide, currently boasting 20 production facilities, 5 in Japan and 15 in other countries, and 36 sales companies in 31 countries, including South Africa.

Brother Business Machines (Pty) Ltd was established in South Africa in July 1981 to become part of the global network of Brother offices. Under the management of the present Managing Director, James Booysen, Brother began distributing typewriters locally and was elected as contractual supplier to the South African Government in the same year. Through a strong network of Black Economic Empowerment partners, Brother is still proudly supplying office automation and IT equipment to the South African Government.

Brother have successfully supplied high speed printer technology, 24 - 33 page per minute, equipment to the market and built on Brother`s core competence of printing technology, we aim to target the SOHO (Small Office Home Office) and medium sized office market by providing printing devices that correspond to their specific needs. We have been expanding our product range by incorporating laser technology within printers, fax machines and multi function centers (MFC`s). Early in 2003, we introduced next-generation colour MFC`s, installed with our newly developed print engine, strengthening our line of colour MFC products.
