Digitec 1300M
notebooks enabling them to be more mobile and responsive to customer needs, while visiting suppliers and customers around the globe.
For our account managers, and development, support and project teams to conduct successful business on the road, they need access to the company`s intranet, e-mail, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) via remote access services (RAS) and the Internet, says David de Bruyn, IT manager of BSW.
The notebooks have given us a major productivity boost. Employees can now take their offices wherever they go, be it at airports, customer sites, the office, at home or on airplanes. When travelling between our Cape Town and Gauteng offices on a weekly basis, it adds a lot of hours back into your day.
One of the motivating factors for standardising on notebooks was decreased financial costs on software licensing as users need no longer load two copies of the software for office and home use.
The Microsoft license policy requires that we license every software installation. In the past we had to duplicate licensing to enable work from home and office, with the 1300Ms we have cut our licensing seat costs by 50 percent for these users, adds de Bruyn.
De Bruyn says that another reason for taking the Digitec route was due the companys high level of service and support.
We looked closely at other manufacturers and their value-added services, but at the end of the day it makes more sense for us to deal with a supplier that is willing to provide desk-to-desk support. We have worked with Digitec for the last few years, and the value added by them by being responsive to our needs has been excellent.
