Datatec recently agreed to the purchase of a majority share of its training division, IT-IQ, but Violet van Niekerk, IT-IQ national sales director, says change is unlikely and management remains focused on its direction.

Speaking from her base in Durban, Van Niekerk says it is business as usual for IT-IQ. "I am very excited about the prospect of going forward. I don`t foresee any changes in the immediate future."

The decision to purchase a majority share by the management consortium, led by John Ramsey and including Van Niekerk, was made following weeks of discussion. The training company`s business no longer forms part of Datatec`s key focus.

"We considered what would be best for IT-IQ. We know that training and is going forward. We also considered the forthcoming skills development legislation," says Van Niekerk.

IT-IQ remains focused on acquiring National Qualification Forum (NQF) status and Information Technology Training Board accreditation.

"The NQF is a good piece of legislation. It forces an investment in training, and encourages people to get better at what they do. Ultimately, this will mean they have more job opportunities and that the IT industry has a more skilled workforce," she explains.

Datatec will effectively the technology training side of its operations to IT-IQ and will retain an equity stake which will now be a Datatec associate company.

IT-IQ has structured its on the premise that training and education have one ultimate goal: to impart knowledge and skills so that learners gain employment, enhanced employment or continued employment.
