Business Connexion employees give a day to charity

After the successful handover of three IT labs in February this year to the learners and staff at Matladi Project High School, based in Zebediela, in Limpopo, Business Connexion staff members are returning to the school on Friday, 22 June, and are dedicating a day to helping the school paint newly refurbished classrooms.

The Business Connexion Marketing Team, together with other employees from the Polokwane office, will all set aside a working day to assist in bettering the learning conditions of more than 1 000 pupils at a school located in a region that faces many challenges, including a high level of unemployment.

“The refurbished classrooms will make for a better learning and teaching environment. Business Connexion, through its letmelearn initiative, aims to help reclaim the high standard of our education by continually bettering the learning conditions of schools, one class and one young person at a time,” says Dr Arnold Beyleveld, CSI Manager at Business Connexion.

The refurbishing and turning of the three classrooms into IT labs early this year included repainting, fixing of light fittings and adding new furniture to create a conducive environment for learning.

“Our intention as a company goes beyond just handing over IT labs; we want to maintain lasting relationships with the schools that we assist so that they can continue providing young people in South Africa with the best quality education possible. Going forward, we will involve Business Connexion employees, as part of our letmegive programme, in projects with our beneficiaries, such as our school programme, so that they can see, first-hand, how their efforts will impact lives,” explains Beyleveld.

He adds it is important that employees give of their time or money, and when they can manage, give both, to help better the plight of those who are less fortunate in the areas that Business Connexion operates, stating that this, as well, should not be limited to these areas only.

“Business Connexion understands the challenges faced by the country with regards to education and specialised skills. That is why we are committed to giving back to communities by grooming South Africa's future leaders,” says Business Connexion CEO Benjamin Mophatlane.

The letmelearn programme has seen Business Connexion implement IT labs at schools in the Free State, North West, Gauteng and Eastern Cape, and now with this project, it also implements its employee engagement programme under the letmegive initiative that will focus on employee volunteerism and payroll giving.
