Business Connexion interns give back

A group of Business Connexion's interns are assisting the Thabo Mbeki day care centre with funding and training support as part of the company's ongoing corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives.

The project has been facilitated through the company's internship programme.

The aim is to aid children and teacher development and ultimately launch an enduring CSI project.

The Thabo Mbeki day care centre was registered in 2005 as a non-profit organisation. It was established to provide basic pre-education and support to vulnerable children, orphans and children neglected by their parents, in the Thabo Mbeki village informal settlement in Diepsloot.

The team of 11 Business Connexion interns spent time with children from the centre on Saturday 27 March 2010.

Khathu Raphulu, Assistant Technology Administrator (UNS) at Business Connexion, says: “This project provided us with an opportunity to share our skills and acquire valuable life lessons. We learned that in giving - even in a small way - we can add immense value to the lives of individuals and the community as a whole.”

The interns organised the help of Mosakong Management to assist non-qualified teaching staff to procure more formal qualifications.

“Mosakong will provide programmes covering various topics, including early childhood development. Attending teachers will receive accreditation in education, training and development practices,” adds Raphulu.

The company will also assist with the mentoring of parents addressing life skills such as family, social, academic, and gender dynamics.

Business Connexion's CSI strategy is based on the belief that learning is the route to emancipation from poverty. The group has developed a unique approach to CSI with its Let Me Learn concept as the official CSI vehicle for the organisation. Business Connexion will continue to add value to the lives of children in the Thabo Mbeki village through the support of the project as part of its CSI drive.
