Organisations should embrace cloud computing because there is very little to fear from the technology, says Fabio Taddei, Fujitsu Services' business solutions consultant.

Fujitsu and ITWeb recently conducted a cloud computing survey to understand the attitudes and challenges around cloud computing and to discover if solutions being offered to the market are compelling and relevant.

This year's survey saw an increase of more than 10% in the total number of respondents. The survey results have been finalised and will be presented at the ITWeb Virtualisation and Cloud Computing Summit taking place tomorrow at The Forum in Bryanston.

The summit will cover various aspects of virtualisation and cloud computing, and feature industry insights and case studies by opinion leaders and legal experts.

The study provides insights into various aspects of cloud computing and virtualisation. Among the areas of interest that the survey probed was the types of services users would move to the cloud.

The findings also help service providers tailor offerings to suit individual clients' needs. One of the key findings is that more than 50% of respondents view cloud computing as real and here to stay.

Additionally, the survey also determined the amount of insight and knowledge that users have in terms of cloud computing and virtualisation. According to the survey, the hybrid solution is the most popular cloud offering among local organisations.

Other insights into cloud computing based on the survey to be explored at the summit include the value that cloud adds to business, in terms of reduced costs, simplified IT and the ability to move IT operations outside the organisation. Areas such as , performance, costs, integration and interoperability will also be addressed.

Taddei and Richard Sutherland, Fujitsu's portfolio manager, dynamic infrastructures, will present on 'Understanding the foundation of cloud computing' at the summit.
