Bytes Technology Group drew a large field of 128 golfers for its ninth Corporate Golf Day, recently held at Johannesburg Country Club, in Woodmead.
The Village Safe Haven, a facility which cares for orphaned, abandoned, abused and neglected children, was the beneficiary of the day's proceedings.
“We believe passionately in making a meaningful difference to a small number of organisations,” says Marius Venter, Group Communications and PR Manager for Bytes Technology Group.
“The Village Safe Haven, based in Buccleuch, currently looks after 15 children and ensures these children have a good chance at a proper life. Our golf day was, again, a huge success and we thank our customers, participants, suppliers and partners for their presence and support on the day.”
Notable participants and guests on the day were former Bytes CEO David Redshaw, radio celebrity Malcolm Gooding, Altron corporate spokesperson Salome Brown, and rugby legend James Dalton.
The golf tournament itself took the form of a fourball alliance, with two scores to count. Award winners on the day were:
* Nearest pin 6th: Donald Berry
* Nearest pin 17th: Neil Kayton
* Longest drive 3rd: Leon Jansen van Vuuren
* Longest drive 12th: Rob Collins
* First place: The fourball of Donald Berry, Gerhard Biggs, Brendon Cilliers and Rob Holloway, with 94 points.
Darren “Whackhead” Simpson, morning drive-time presenter on 94.7FM, was MC and kept the large dinner crowd in stitches with his banter.
Sponsors contributing prizes to a popular raffle were Xerox, ITWeb, CosmoCom, Prometric, Avis, NCR, Starbase, Visions, Vusalela, Goodings Grove Olive, Fairmont, Sunwa, Hildesheim, Simbavati and Dell. Prizes ranged from a magnum of Champagne to shopping vouchers, with highlights being weekends away at upmarket venues and the top prize, a Dell notebook computer.
