Bytes raises R10 000 with zoo walk

Bytes Technology Group, South Africa's largest South African IT company, donated R10 000 to Children in the Wilderness after more than 500 people completed a 5km walk around the Johannesburg Zoo.

Children of the Wilderness is an environmental and life skills educational programme that focuses on the next generation of rural decision-makers, and aims to bridge the divide between communities and wildlife. It hosts rural children between the ages of eight and 16 for up to six days in Wilderness Safari Camps across southern Africa.

“We believe in making a meaningful contribution to organisations we support,” says Bytes Technology Group Communications and PR manager Marius Venter. “In this light, we hosted the Bytes Family Fun Day at the Johannesburg Zoo. It gave us an opportunity to bring people together, along with their family members, to showcase the group's capabilities, to do some internal branding, and to raise money for Children in the Wilderness.

“There was a remarkable spirit among the people as they completed the 5km walk. Children had their faces painted, everyone received a gift, and the feedback we received from everyone on the day was quite exceptional. We thank all who participated, and we are pleased we were able to make a contribution to such a worthy organisation.”

At the end of the walk, Rob Abraham, CEO of Bytes Technology Group, handed over a cheque for R10 000 to Hamish Gilfillan of Children in the Wilderness.
