Bytes Technology Group`s recent acquisition of Cape-based Optitek and Excalibur, renamed Bytes Technology Storage (BTS), will be grown in Johannesburg and the UK through the acquisition of extra skills, relocation of key staff and training of in-house staff, said Mike Broderick, head of BTS, at the recent announcement in Johannesburg.
[VIDEO]BTS claims strong consulting and integration skills in IBM, HP, Nexsan and SANRAD iSCSI, and believes its strength lies in its ability to provide a storage blueprint based on current infrastructure and requirements.
Broderick said expensive, high-end storage solutions are often out of place when companies can do as well with an ATA-based, medium performance system.
[VIDEO]BTS`s philosophy of classes of storage includes it favouring disk over tape in many cases. "Tape must be consigned to disaster recovery and off-site vaulting," he said. "We offer managed services on an out-task basis, and there are many customers, including Woolworths, Vodacom and Metrolife, that use these solutions from us."
[VIDEO]Rob Griggs, BTG executive director, added that senior BTS personnel would be moved to Johannesburg, and at the same time, the group will take on more skills. "Support must be formalised and managed across the group, also in our UK subsidiaries," he added.
