The Microsoft solutions division within Bytes Technology Group subsidiary BTG Systems Integration (SI) has launched a software asset management (SAM) division.
"The SAM division is a mix of product and consulting services as well as support offerings to assist clients to manage software assets and provide a single view of the software within the enterprise," said SAM divisional manager Arthur Bucas at the official launch in Midrand yesterday.
Bucas said BTG SI established the SAM division to provide the tools, skills and understanding required to ensure the successful implementation of software asset management projects.
"Often sound procedures get implemented but are not properly supported by policies and user education.
"The biggest drivers for adopting software asset management include legal compliance, cost savings and better management of the technology environment," said Bucas.
"The SAM division brings together a number of offerings in the larger BTG group and offers them to clients in a structured and managed fashion to help them identify products to manage their software infrastructure and IT assets," said Nick Perkins, divisional MD of BTG SI - Microsoft Solutions.
"The products supported and identified by the SAM division include offerings from a variety of different software vendors to ensure we are able to meet the budgets and exact needs of each individual customer," said Perkins.
Bucas said the SAM division was also aimed at positioning BTG to help customers cut costs by eliminating unnecessary software licensing expenses through having a better understanding of their real software needs. "Often customers don`t realise they need less to do more."
