Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced the general availability of AimIT 3.1 and ShipIT 3.0 for clients seeking IT management and distribution capabilities that are suited for today`s extended enterprise.

The latest versions AimIT and ShipIT provide full support for eBusinesses looking to effectively control the introduction of newer technologies into their environment - including handheld devices and the Windows 2000 and Linux operating systems. According to IDC`s 2000 Market Forecast and Analysis reports, CA is the market leader in software deployment and ranks second in the asset management market.

Dion Gerrans, regional account manager at Computer Associates Africa, notes that the increasing popularity of new operating systems and mobile devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) has significantly changed the typical IT environment. "In this changing IT landscape, businesses need to be able to manage and maintain new devices across different platforms in the same way as they have done with existing equipment," he states.

Available immediately as Enterprise Editions, AimIT 3.1 and ShipIT 3.0 offer a tremendous opportunity for customers looking for exceptionally practical and cost-effective systems management.

Using AimIT, says Gerrans, eBusinesses can track and manage their expansive inventories of IT devices and software from a central location - including network servers, desktop PCs, handheld personal digital assistants (PDAs), and even kiosk-style devices. By automating and consistently performing inventory management tasks, AimIT helps eBusinesses increase their operational efficiency.

Similarly, ShipIT accelerates and automates the delivery of software and other digital content to resources across an extended eBusiness enterprise - including Palm OS, Windows CE, Windows 2000 and Linux systems. Regardless of device location or type of network connection, ShipIT consistently delivers and configures application and system software on remote devices with a minimum of manual intervention.

Gerrans says that AimIT and ShipIT are fully integrated with one another, as well as with other members of CA`s family of eBusiness management solutions, including the remote systems control solution ControlIT. "These products are available directly from CA and from CA`s VIP Enterprise Solution Provider channel partners Drive Control and Workgroup," he concludes.
