CA announces general availability of Unicenter database management r11 for DB2 for z/OS V8

Innovative solution enables customers to maximise availability and reduce ownership costs of increasingly large and complex DB2 for z/OS databases

Computer Associates International, Inc today announced the general availability of Unicenter Database Management r11 for DB2 for z/OS (DB2), its advanced solution for optimising the performance and reliability of mission-critical mainframe database environments.

This new version, which adds support for DB2 for z/OS v8, includes new technologies and more than 70 customer-requested enhancements for managing large and complex DB2 environments and improving response time and system reliability. It helps increase business availability by reducing resource-intensive activities such as database administration, performance management and backup/recovery. Advanced product integration and automation capabilities enable customers to lower the costs of database management and increase operational efficiencies with reduced resource utilisation.

Unicenter Database Management r11 for DB2 for z/OS is comprised of 30 integrated technologies organized into three solution offerings - Unicenter Database Performance Management, Unicenter Database Administration, and Unicenter Database Backup and Recovery. Enhancements include:

* Large Object (LOB) management which enables loading and unloading of LOBs greater than 32K.

* Database Administration Unicode catalogue support for management of multilingual environments for DB2 v8.

* Database backup and recovery support for 4096 partitions for greater backup and recovery capabilities for DB2 v8.

* Recovery for high-transaction environments with support of 10 000 archive logs for high-speed data recovery for DB2 v8.

* New patent pending technology for SYSLGRNX entry cleanup that enables deletion without image copy backup requirements.

* Incorporation of database cloning for faster data copying.

*.An enhanced referential integrity editor for reducing complex database object relationship editing.

*.System Management Facilities (SMF) auditing for extended security and auditing to assist in regulatory compliance.

*.Additional predictive reorganisation intelligence functionality in the CA Value Pack for DB2, a no-charge bundle of software utilities that enables easy customisation of the DB2 environment.

Unicenter Database Management r11 for DB2 for z/OS is available under CA`s FlexSelect Licensing programme, including the newly announced Measured Workload Pricing, which bases licensing costs on measured system usage, rather than total potential hardware capacity.
