Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) has announced the availability of CleverPath Enterprise Content Manager (ECM), an innovative solution that addresses the growing need to store, , control and access diverse assets across the enterprise.

CleverPath ECM extends the collaboration-and-community capabilities of CA`s CleverPath Portal to simplify management of all types of content across the enterprise using the intuitive, graphical Portal interface. Supported content types include data, images, multimedia, presentations, spreadsheets, documents, e-mail and text. CleverPath ECM provides comprehensive content management capabilities for these diverse content types - including storage and access management, process automation and workflow administration, version control and secure check-in/check-out functions.

"The information that organizations want to leverage across the enterprise consists of more than just databases. It also includes video and audio files, images and other types of assets that - without effective management - can wind up floating around the enterprise in various states of revision and modification," said Carl Hartman, vice president of marketing, portal and business intelligence, CA. "With CleverPath ECM, managers can gain greater control of this diverse content, making it easier to share it and ensure its accuracy over time."

CleverPath ECM offers today`s information-centric organizations an ideal collaborative environment that streamlines the digitising, storage, management, reuse, and distribution of digital assets to users through multiple channels. By providing easy, efficient, enterprise access and a secure centralized archiving system, CleverPath ECM allows organisations to "author once and deliver anywhere".

The comprehensive rich media support and ease of installation and implementation of CleverPath ECM also enable development of next-generation information products and services - as well as enhanced information sharing with suppliers, partners, and customers. Ultimately, this complete content management solution results in increased return-on-investment for all content, increased productivity for knowledge workers, reduced operational costs and maximum business process flexibility.

Oxford University chose CleverPath ECM for its Music Faculty Library. "Offering systems capable of capturing, preserving and delivering vast amounts of digital content is the core challenge for research libraries within this digital age," said Matthew Dovey, research and development manager, Oxford University Library Services, Systems and Electronic Resources Service. "CleverPath ECM will help us overcome barriers to electronic library access, enabling us to expand Web-based access to the University`s extensive collection of digitised classical music to the entire Oxford student body and beyond."

CleverPath ECM stores and manages metadata for all content types across the enterprise. Its type-specific plug-ins, which are based on an Open Standards Architecture, can be developed to scan content as it is loaded to extract this metadata. Other media services, such as thumbnail creation, can also be automated for streamlined workflow.

CleverPath ECM is delivered with a set of standard plug-ins for most common media types such as Word and PDF documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, JPEG images, MPEG and Quicktime multimedia, and MP3 audio. It can also be easily customized to work with third-party content services, such as audio and video search engines.
