CA earns accreditation by Carbon Disclosure Project

CA ecoGovernance meets CDP requirements for carbon reporting, management

Johannesburg, 19 Nov 2009

CA has announced it has been accredited by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for the ability to meet the CDP's standards for calculating and reporting carbon with CA ecoGovernance, part of CA's ecoSoftware solution providing energy, carbon, and sustainability management software.

This is a significant milestone, as the CDP maintains the world's largest database of primary corporate climate change data and has become the global gold standard for the carbon disclosure methodology and process.

Almost 2 500 of the world's major companies report their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through CDP, with 82% of the FTSE Global Equity Index Series companies contributing data to the 2009 report, up from 77% in 2008.

“As more and more companies recognise the value of reporting their climate change strategies, we're committed to working with providers of high-quality software solutions like CA to help make the reporting process easier and more reliable,” said Paul Dickinson, CEO of the CDP. “CA's ecoGovernance software has been tested by an independent third party and we're delighted to recommend its use to support the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions across the entire business, which will help streamline the time and effort involved with measuring corporate carbon impact.”

CA completed a thorough product testing and review process administered by an independent third party authority on greenhouse gas accounting, auditing and management, on behalf of the CDP, in which CA ecoGovernance was evaluated based on a set of standard carbon emissions measurement and reporting criteria. In meeting the evaluation requirements, CA has become an official Carbon Calculation Partner of the CDP, which distinguishes CA ecoGovernance as an accredited solution for use by organisations in measuring and reporting emissions to CDP.

The evaluation involved producing emissions data replicating a typical company scenario, using CA ecoGovernance for calculation, reporting and other related activities that support successful reporting of emissions data to CDP. In fulfilling these requirements, the testing organisation also confirmed CA ecoGovernance demonstrates compatibility with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol for calculating GHG emissions. The GHG Protocol is the most widely used international accounting standard for business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions.

Along with CA ecoGovernance, CA also provides CA ecoMeter - this is a solution that will capture detailed real-time information of an organisation's energy consumption across its data centre and IT infrastructure as well as other facilities in the organisation. This will enable you to trend and alert against automatically established baselines, enabling you to act in pursuit of reducing cost and improving operations. The ecoSoftware solution provides continuous information for ongoing improvement.

“The CDP has been one of the major driving forces leading the world's corporations towards greater transparency around carbon emissions,” said Hannes Lategan - Solution Strategist at CA Southern Africa. “We are all encouraged to see businesses make significant strides to respond to this challenge, but should acknowledge that we can all improve even further. We are eager to continue to work with businesses, governments and other organisations to provide software solutions that can help them collect, calculate, analyse and report emissions data more efficiently, while also helping them deliver on their carbon reduction programs more effectively. This is becoming particularly important as energy, carbon and environmental programs expand, and as organisations seek to improve and sustain their carbon reduction programs over time.”
