Computer Associates (CA) has announced the latest release of BrightStor CA-Vantage Storage Resource Manager (SRM) for z/OS and OS/390, the company`s leading enterprise-wide storage resource management solution.
With its advanced support for IBM`s DB2 Universal Database Server for z/OS and OS/390, BrightStor CA-Vantage SRM 6.2 enables storage administrators to monitor and control DB2 space usage without special DB2 expertise. It also helps ensure storage availability for critical application data.
This latest release 6.2 also includes a convenient, open interface that enables storage management information to be easily integrated into popular desktop business applications, such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes - so staff can directly access, analyse and report on mainframe storage data from spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel.
Support for DB2 Universal Database Server for z/OS and OS/390 - which includes database, table, and tablespace views - raises the number of storage objects that BrightStor CA-Vantage can manage to more than 300. This gives IT staff effective administrative control over even the most diverse storage environments.

The new release also enhances the BrightStor CA-Vantage SRM support for IBM and Storage Tek virtual tape systems and features a new graphical configuration client that simplifies installation and maintenance through its interactive approach and expanded online help.
CA also offers BrightStor CA-Vantage SRM for distributed platforms and recently announced the latest release of that solution, with extended support for and integration with the Microsoft Exchange Server.
