Computer Associates International has announced its acquisition of iLumin Software Services, a privately held provider of enterprise message management and archiving software. The acquisition extends CA`s leadership in intelligent storage management (ISM) by adding comprehensive, cross-platform e-mail security, archiving, storage management and data protection to CA`s industry-leading BrightStor solutions.
iLumin`s Assentor product line provides comprehensive, enterprise message management and archiving for e-mail, instant messages, and other unstructured data across leading platforms including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise. These solutions enable customers to cost-effectively address their message management objectives, including records management, discovery, litigation support, compliance, and supervision.
"Organisations are under intense pressure to improve management and protection of all their data - including the e-mails and unstructured data that comprise such a big part of the everyday business environment," said Chris Broderick, senior VP and GM of CA`s BrightStor business unit. "By enhancing our BrightStor enterprise portfolio with iLumin`s e-mail management technology, CA can now offer customers an exceptionally complete and streamlined approach to managing and protecting the full spectrum of information assets across the enterprise."
According to Gartner, the worldwide e-mail archiving market for licensed product is expected to see a 58% compound annual growth rate over the next five years, growing from $89 million in 2004 to $883 in 2009. (1)
Gartner also states, "Companies must address their e-mail retention and management needs now. Waiting until the company defines a plan for electronic records retention or for e-mail active-archiving technology to mature could place your business at risk, given the regulatory requirements and escalating demands for electronic discovery." "Joining CA`s BrightStor family will strengthen the Assentor product line and take it further than previously possible," said Dave Ellison, president and chief operating officer of iLumin, who is joining CA as senior VP for BrightStor. "More importantly, by providing e-mail management within the framework of CA`s intelligent storage management strategy, we will enable organisations worldwide to gain the cost savings and risk mitigation that result when all enterprise information assets are managed in a common manner." Terms of the acquisition were not announced. iLumin Software Services was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia.
CA will demonstrate its new e-mail messaging solutions, along with BrightStor data availability and storage management suites, at CA World 2005, 13 to 17 November, in Las Vegas. For more information on iLumin products, please visit http://ca.com/ilumin.
