Computer Associates Africa`s new eTrust Vulnerability Manager r8 introduces a rack-mountable security management appliance that enables South African companies to safeguard their IT infrastructures from known vulnerabilities that threaten the integrity of the enterprise.
And in support of this new release, CA and Network Engines have announced a partnership that will see Network Engines supplying appliance development, manufacturing and logistics services for Vulnerability Manager.
"We are pleased to partner with CA in the development and manufacture of the eTrust Vulnerability Manager appliance," said John Curtis, president and CEO of Network Engines.
"With the Vulnerability Manager application, CA delivers a unique set of tools for analysing weaknesses within a network and identifying potential and costly problems before they have a chance to occur. The appliance model brings an added level of ease, affordability and reliability to companies of any size."
eTrust Vulnerability Manager r8 combines vulnerability assessment, automated patch and configuration management, remediation and compliance analysis into a single solution - enabling IT personnel to perform all critical vulnerability-related tasks from a common, intuitive Web interface.
Importantly, eTrust Vulnerability Manager ensures business continuity through real-time management of vulnerable and misconfigured systems. It is, according to CA, the first security appliance to address the full vulnerability lifecycle, including:
* Discovery and profiling of assets;
* Tracking of emerging vulnerability alerts;
* Analysis of vulnerabilities across all enterprise assets;
* Automatic notifications of vulnerabilities via e-mail;
* Prioritisation based on business impact;
* Planning and testing of remediation measures;
* Automated remediation; and
* Documentation as required for validation and/or regulatory compliance.
"Vulnerability management today requires highly sophisticated technology that automates an organisation`s response to threats, yet is easy to deploy," comments Danny Ilic, business technologist (enterprise management and security) at Computer Associates Africa.
"By delivering comprehensive vulnerability lifecycle management technology in a single, plug-and-play appliance, we`re giving companies all the information resources they need to stay ahead of the threat matrix, reduce risk and maintain high levels of service."
Key eTrust Vulnerability Manager r8 features include:
* Security patches. Most security incidents occur as a result of vulnerabilities for which patches are already available. eTrust Vulnerability Manager automates the patching process, reducing administrative costs and risk exposure through automated, structured patch remediation and effective test procedures.
* System configuration. Many organisations struggle to define best practices for hardening assets and verifying installed applications. Again, eTrust Vulnerability Manager automates this process - reducing configuration-related exposures, which are often missed when addressing vulnerabilities - through best practices and procedures and automated configuration remediation.
* Compliance analysis. eTrust Vulnerability Manager provides IT organisations with full visibility into their security postures by verifying and measuring risks through comprehensive enterprise-wide risk and standards-compliance reporting.
* Unicenter and eTrust integration. Through integration with CA`s Unicenter operations management software and other eTrust security management software solutions, eTrust Vulnerability Manager enables customers to link their vulnerability management measures with their change management processes - thereby eliminating a common cause of temporary security exposure. eTrust Vulnerability Manager supports Unix, Linux and Windows.
