Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced that it has been ranked by IDC as the world leader in the enterprise system and storage management software market. According to IDC, CA leads all companies in both total revenue ($1.66 billion) and market share (12.3%).
CA extended its worldwide market leadership by achieving a 9.9% growth rate during 2002, while the market as a whole contracted by 1.5% from $13.7 billion in 2001 to $13.5 billion. IDC forecasts that the market will grow to $18.8 billion by 2007, for a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8%.
Companies topped by CA include IBM, EMC, VERITAS, Hewlett-Packard and BMC.
The report, entitled "Worldwide Enterprise System and Storage Management Software Forecast and Analysis Summary, 2003-2007," noted that Linux and Windows - both strong areas of focus for CA - are the prime platforms for growth in this market.
"CA is focused on delivering a portfolio of management software that enables companies to cut costs and increase efficiencies," said Mark J. Barrenechea, senior vice president of product development at CA. "We will continue to innovate and provide industry leadership in managing on-demand computing across Linux and other popular platforms."
This most recent report closely follows IDC`s assessment of the global performance and availability management software market, which found CA to be the global revenue and market share leader - again besting IBM, BMC and all other competitors.
"CA`s strong performance in 2002 across multiple markets is indicative of its strengths in both technology and business model," said Tim Grieser, program vice president, Enterprise System Management Software, IDC. "These are hotly contested, multi-billion dollar markets that require vendors to effectively design and execute their product management, marketing, distribution and partnership strategies if they are going to succeed."
