Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) has released Version 9 of its BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows software.
This industry-leading data protection solution combines a host of new features, such as ease-of-use, reliability and performance with simplified licensing and aggressive pricing.
BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9 allows customers to plug in separately-offered options and agents to develop a fully customised, distributed solution for virtually any environment, regardless of platform.
This makes BrightStor ARCserve Backup far easier to configure and deploy than competitive products that require customers to buy separate versions of backup products to support platforms, such as different versions of Windows.
"We have designed a solution with our customers and reseller/integrator partners in mind which simplifies the specification process associated with backup software," says Dion Gerrans, manager (Storage Products) at CA (SA).
"We have made it as easy as possible for them to quickly and accurately specify their backup software orders - and we have also simplified the licensing of our BrightStor ARCserve Backup solution to simplify this process for everyone in the supply chain," he says.

Early usability testing of BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9 conducted by CA demonstrated that up to 80% of inexperienced users could perform their first data backup within 20 minutes of opening the product packaging.
Version 9 minimises the impact of backup processes on enterprise networks by allowing technicians to specify separate network paths for backup tasks - thereby isolating massive backup-related file movements from critical business transactions.
In addition, new scheduling capabilities significantly reduce workloads by enabling storage administrators to automate a full range of routine tasks, including drive cleaning and database maintenance, in the same manner as they currently schedule routine backups.
BrightStor ARCserve Backup Version 9 is available through CA`s worldwide network of authorised channel partners, and has long been a favoured solution for resellers, integrators and storage management specialists in SA.
With the new version, CA is offering a special maintenance bundle that includes 24 x 7 technical support and upgrade protection.
Version 9 of BrightStor ARCserve Backup is immediately available and Microsoft-certified for Windows. It will support .Net Server upon its general availability.
A NetWare version of BrightStor ARCserve Backup will ship next month. A Linux version will be available.
