CA ships latest version of Unicenter TNG software delivery

By Computer Associates Africa
Johannesburg, 18 Sept 2000

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced the general availability of Unicenter TNG Delivery Option (SDO) 3.0, an eBusiness tool that accelerates and automates the delivery of software and other content to resources across the extended enterprise - including Palm OS, Windows CE, Windows 2000 and Linux systems.

Unicenter TNG SDO enables organizations to update and synchronize systems across the board, regardless of platform or location, from a common point of control. This capability is essential as handheld PDAs, remote kiosks and other new IT resources continue to proliferate business environments. By giving organizations the ability to quickly and accurately update systems over both wired and connections, Unicenter TNG SDO:

  • dramatically reduces time-to-market for new eBusiness applications.

  • reduces the cost of eBusiness application deployment.

  • eliminates potential lost revenue and customer dissatisfaction caused by out-of-date information, inconsistent application behaviour and poorly synchronized applications and content.

Unicenter TNG SDO is a particularly compelling solution for wireless/mobile assets because it can adjust to low-bandwidth and/or fragile connections. It also distributes and updates software in background mode with sensitivity to CPU utilization, thereby avoiding disruption of active tasks on target systems.

"Microsoft`s Windows-based mobile devices are being deployed in enterprise solutions at a increasing rate because of their security, wired and wireless connectivity, expandability and familiar environment for users and developers," says Douglas Dedo, Microsoft Corporation`s group product manager, mobile devices division. "CA`s SDO addresses the software distribution and enterprise-class manageability needs of organizations as they plan large scale deployments of Pocket PCs and Handheld PCs."

Unicenter TNG SDO solves the daunting task of actively managing the complicated interdependencies and requirements of today`s applications. Software management ensures consistency, reliability and efficiency of software installation, and ensures compatibility between applications and synchronization between local and server installed software. It also manages the installation sequence of different applications, understands their prerequisites and facilitates software uninstalls, without cluttering the system.

The design of Unicenter TNG SDO supports emerging technologies and delivers software between the widest range of platforms in the industry. Unicenter TNG SDO embodies broadcast and multi-cast technologies, an n-tier distribution model, three-tier management hierarchy and advanced security options to support the exploding number of systems.

Unicenter TNG SDO is completely integrated with Unicenter TNG`s asset management and remote management solutions, providing immediate access to shared information and common resources for improved decision making.
