Computer Associates (CA) and SmartStor have partnered at the SAN World Africa exhibition (11 to 13 June 2002 at the Dome) to showcase some of the latest data storage and backup solutions on the market.
CA is a leader in the storage arena with its Brightstor software solutions targeted at enterprise backup and storage resource management applications. SmartStor is a vendor-independent open systems data storage solutions and services group and the local representative for XIOtech`s Magnitude disk storage subsystems and ADIC robotic tape library products - all of which are being demonstrated at SAN World Africa.
CA and SmartStor will spotlight a number of new open systems solutions aimed at smaller enterprises as well as large corporates. CA`s David Liff (Storage brand manager EMEA) is presenting a paper at the event in the Conference Centre on 11 June at 3.30pm.
Dion Gerrans, regional account manager at CA (Africa), says that together with Smartstor, CA can offer flexible, turnkey solutions that simplify the management of storage resources across heterogeneous protocols and multivendor hardware - thereby lowering operational costs and ensuring that storage resources are utilised more effectively.
Vaughn Beattie, manager, Strategic Business Development, at SmartStor, says his company has opted to partner with CA because of its leadership position in this increasingly complex sector of the IT Industry.
"There are significant synergies between CA`s software solutions and SmartStor`s hardware offerings," he says. "Together our focus is on the Open Systems market, with applications for all flavours of Unix, NT, Solaris, AIX and other platforms."
Beattie says that with the proliferation of storage area networks (SANs) and other new technologies, together with falling hardware costs and increased functionality from new software systems, the market is set to mushroom. "It`s thanks to exhibitions such as SAN World Africa that end-users will be given an opportunity to view - and test drive in many cases - the products and technologies of the future," he adds.
