Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that Fiera Milano SpA, Italy`s premier international trade fair, has chosen CA`s Unicenter enterprise management and eTrust security solutions to manage and protect its extensive IT infrastructure. By doing so, Fiera Milano SpA is able to ensure the performance and security of its distributed, business-critical systems while keeping staffing costs and resource requirements under control.
Founded in 1920, Fiera Milano SpA is one of Europe`s leading exhibition centers and one of the biggest complexes of its kind worldwide. The Fair`s 26 pavilions provide four million square feet of exhibition space for over 33,000 exhibiting companies and vast numbers of visitors each year. In fiscal year 2001/2002, Fiera Milano SpA forecasts revenue of nearly 145 million euro.
Last year, Fiera Milano SpA launched a major initiative to optimize and unify its increasingly complex and heterogeneous IT infrastructure that included fifteen separate networks. The result of the initiative was the consolidation of the organization`s resources around a single Windows NT-based network, two Sun Solaris servers running Oracle, a messaging server, and an IBM mainframe. Once the consolidation was complete, Fiera Milano SpA looked for the most effective and efficient way to manage and secure its new environment. "Our biggest challenge was to guarantee the smooth operation and uninterrupted availability of systems that, because of the relentless demands of our exhibitions, are used intensively 365 days a year," explained Giovanni Cazzulani, CEO of Zucchetti Informatica, the IT services provider that helped Fiera Milano SpA with its optimization effort.
After a thorough examination of available solutions, Fiera Milano SpA and Zucchetti together selected CA`s Unicenter and eTrust. Unicenter Software Delivery provides the ability to automatically distribute and upgrade applications to its 350 desktop machines. Unicenter Remote Control enables staff members to remotely troubleshoot and fix PCs across the network, and Unicenter ServicePlus Service Desk streamlines enterprise-wide support processes. All of these Unicenter solutions are integrated on a common console for improved efficiency and simplified operation.
