Computer Associates has unveiled its vision of "Managing Storage without Boundaries," the driving force behind CA`s BrightStor brand of storage management solutions, which uniquely enable customers to take a platform-neutral approach to the management of their enterprise-wide storage resources.
"The cost-efficient provisioning of storage growth and the effective management of data storage resources are strategic to today`s e-businesses," says Shaun Nel, business technologist (Storage) at CA.
"The `point` solutions used by most organisations are inadequate to deliver this essential efficiency and end-to-end manageability. CA`s BrightStor solutions overcome these limitations by allowing IT teams to administer resources, execute processes and apply best practices across heterogeneous storage technologies in order to deliver superior support to the business," he says.
"Today`s storage environments have become a maze of platforms, topologies and manufacturers. Customers are therefore demanding storage management solutions that greatly simplify the deployment, optimisation and maintenance of their enterprise-wide storage subsystems.

To fulfil these next generation storage requirements, CA has created a new class of storage management solutions that it calls "Enterprise Storage Automation".
"Enterprise Storage Automation provides the functional intelligence, dynamic storage provisioning, policy definitions and other advanced capabilities necessary to shield operations staff from the complexities of underlying storage infrastructures."
According to Nel, these solutions enable administrators to manage and visualize storage from a true business perspective, rather than a purely technical one.
"This approach is significantly more effective than the `bottom-up` approach that characterizes most of the solutions available today," he stresses. Nel says Enterprise Storage Automation also brings the management of storage into better alignment with the management of other key enterprise IT resources such as systems and network infrastructures.
