Calgary adopts QuickCheck
The Calgary Public Library has placed an order for an additional eight of Sentry Technology`s QuickCheck self-service kiosks, reports CNN Money.
When the installation of the latest order is complete, the library will have 22 self-service systems in service. QuickCheck operates in a similar fashion to a bank ATM. Customers gain access to the library`s circulation software via a user card and touch screen video monitor. A bar code or RFID chip on the book is read, security functions performed and a receipt is printed.
The entire process is fast, user friendly and frees library staff from the circulation desk to perform higher-level tasks. The system includes statistical usage report software as well as remote diagnostic tools for management of the QuickCheck over a local network and via the Internet.
Self-service benefits travellers
Alaska Airlines has doubled the number of passengers it gets through its airport lobbies with the aid of a unique self-service process that allows passengers to check in and drop off luggage by themselves, states Retail Solutions.
In 1998, the airline formed an "Airport of the Future" team, with employees from throughout the company, including representatives from the facilities, IT, marketing, and in-flight departments seeking a better way of getting customers through the check-in process.
The airline`s chief executive at the time made it clear that he wanted to take advantage of the growing use of electronic ticketing and self-service kiosks.
Care Express serves millions
The CSG`s Care Express product suite, a solution for cable and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) providers that enables online customer self-service, now serves more than six million consumers of cable and satellite services in the US, says TMCnet.
Over the past eight months, over a million consumers have registered to use Care Express, bringing total consumers managed by the solution to more than six million.
CSG and its clients are signing up over 3 500 new Care Express users each day and processing in excess of $200 million in payments each month, or approximately $2.4 billion in payments each year.
