A SanDisk 256MB Compact FlashCard, a data storage card, has survived an explosion, while the digital camera it was in at the time was blown to pieces.
Don Frazier, a US newspaper photographer, stationed a digital camera at a remote point to film the demolition of an old highway bridge on the Mississippi River. He positioned the camera a little too close, and the blast shattered it.
However, the card was found to be intact, and when Frazier inserted the card into a PC reader it still contained the images of the blast.
"The fact that my SanDisk card survived all of this is just amazing. And that it captured a wild shot of flying bridge debris before my camera died is certainly a testament to its durability," says Frazier.
