Camsoft unveils SMS solution

MaxSMS is an innovative new application from Camsoft Solutions to easily transmit and track the delivery of SMS messages in Maximizer, and is a free add-on for the popular Maximizer range of CRM products.
Johannesburg, 14 Oct 2002

Short messaging service (SMS) has proven itself as an invaluable communication tool while on the move and over 4 billion SMS messages are delivered daily around the world, with this number increasing at an almost exponential rate.

The majority of these messages are sent from mobile phones, but an increasing number of SMS messages are also being sent from PCs as a convenient alternative to e-mail. The intended recipient of a message might not for any one of a variety of reasons be able to receive an e-mail message at the time that the message is sent, whereas an SMS takes seconds to be delivered and most people carry their cellphones around with them. There are also more cellphone users in SA than PC users and this gap is only likely to widen going into the future.

Local CRM company Camsoft Solutions has developed an innovative method to easily transmit and track the delivery of SMS messages, either to a single recipient or many thousands as a bulk message in their MaxSMS product.

MaxSMS currently works with the popular Maximizer range of CRM products. The application seamlessly extracts the cell numbers from a list of selected contacts so that a particular message can be sent to all of the contacts at once, with the option of the delivery date and text of the message automatically being saved to the contact`s notes field.

The MaxSMS application is provided at no cost and to be able to start sending messages the user first needs to register on the Web site provided by the application where credits for the SMS messages can be bought. The cost of the messages is 43c per message with discounts for bulk purchases. The current cost of an SMS sent from a cellphone, by comparison, is approximately 75c. Prior to sending an SMS you can also request MaxSMS to query the Web site to determine how many credits you have. Once the messages have been sent, MaxSMS automatically updates the credit amount left over and displays this in the dialogue box. A delivery notice is provided for each message sent and the status of the delivery is updated by the Web site each time you send a message or query your credit amount.
