Canada reveals fully-

CBC News.

Unlike electric with gasoline-engine backups, such as the Chevrolet Volt - which arrived at Canadian dealerships a month ago - the Leaf is run entirely from its electric battery, which allows the vehicle to travel up to 160km before it must be recharged.

Borba, who works as a software engineer at IBM, said he cannot bear the fuel industry anymore, and that he is thrilled with the introduction of green technology, states Oye Times.

"Right at the time there was an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico," Borba said of the discussions he had with his wife, "so we decided maybe there's another way to do what we need to do that doesn't go deep into the ocean to get the oil, transport the oil, and refine the oil.”

Autos.ca quotes Allen Childs, president of Nissan Canada, as saying: “This is a significant milestone in the movement that brings sustainable mobility within our grasp, and at Nissan we're excited to be leading the way by bringing the world's first all-electric car to the mass market, which was also recognised as the 2011 World Car of the Year.”

“Today we made history by handing over the keys to Borba, the first Canadian consumer to purchase a Nissan Leaf. This represents the freedom to choose a car that has no tailpipe, produces no emissions and will never have to visit a gas station,” he concludes.
