Canadian Museum of Civilization protects, manages critical data with CA`s BrightStor SRM

Leading national institution increases storage efficiency while maintaining integrity of information on four million artifacts
Johannesburg, 25 Jun 2003

Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) today announced that the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) has deployed CA`s BrightStor Storage Resource Management (BrightStor SRM) to ensure the integrity of its critical data and significantly improve the efficiency of its storage environment.

BrightStor SRM delivers these benefits by enabling CMCC to optimise existing resources and manage exponentially increasing enterprise data through centralised monitoring, analysis and automation of storage management operations.

As Canada`s national museum of human history, CMCC is committed to fostering Canadian citizens` sense of their common identity and shared past. The most important aspects of the CMCC are its collections and research. The museum maintains information on almost four million artifacts acquired over 150 years. It thus requires an infallible storage and backup management system to protect this critical data.

The museum selected BrightStor SRM for its unique ability to ensure the continuous availability of data, critical storage systems and applications. BrightStor SRM also provides the museum`s IT staff with a single management view of its enterprise storage resources. This improves planning of storage requirements and prevents the museum`s storage infrastructure from becoming overloaded.

"A museum by definition is an institution where the storage of information is absolutely critical," said Gordon Butler, Chief Information Technology Officer of the CMCC. "In CA`s BrightStor SRM, we have found a robust solution to effectively manage disk utilisation and accurately forecast long-term storage and backup requirements."

BrightStor SRM supports the Museum`s distributed and mainframe systems. It ensures the availability and integrity of the museum`s data through scheduled backups and ongoing monitoring.

CMCC has outsourced management of its IT resources to CA Technology Services. This enables the museum to leverage CA`s rich technical skills and proven management best practices to maximise the value of its IT investments and focus on its core competencies.

"We are proud that CA`s BrightStor SRM has been entrusted with some of Canada`s most priceless information assets," said Joanne Moretti, general manager, CA Canada. "The Canadian Museum of Civilization is a testament to the power of CA technology to manage critical IT resources and deliver business value through storage efficiency."
