Canadian Red Cross deploys ACCPAC Business Management Solution in more than 30 sites across Canada

ACCPAC for Windows helps the Red Cross increase productivity and provides significant savings in communication costs
Johannesburg, 01 Mar 1999

Accpac International, Inc., a subsidiary of Computer Associates International Inc. , today announced that the Canadian Red Cross has selected the ACCPAC for Windows Corporate Series(tm) business management system as the replacement to its legacy mainframe financial systems. In deciding to standardize on ACCPAC for Windows, the Red Cross joins a growing number of larger mid-market companies to take advantage of best-of-breed business management solutions that offer superior user-definable integration, customization capabilities, and comprehensive functionality.

"ACCPAC for Windows has the functionality, flexibility and reliability to surpass the capabilities of our previous financial management systems. By helping us effectively manage Canadian Red Cross funds, we expect ACCPAC for Windows to help us reduce overhead, increase productivity, and provide significant savings in communications costs, " says a key Canadian Red Cross IT project spokesperson.

By combining the award-winning functionality of ACCPAC for Windows with the enhanced scalability and performance of Microsoft SQL Server and Windows NT, the Canadian Red Cross solves its most critical issue-efficiently managing funds earmarked for relief. Faced with the high cost of upgrading or replacing its disparate, non-Y2K-compliant mainframe financial management systems, the organization sought an affordable, integrated solution capable of handling its stringent reporting needs and large volume of annual transactions. The ACCPAC solution will help the Canadian Red Cross achieve speed, consistency and consolidation in financial reporting. The ACCPAC solution is being successfully implemented by a leading systems integrator, The Numbers Group.

"High-end systems integrators such as The Numbers Group are a clear reflection of ACCPAC`s broad-based channel presence and our ability to support and deliver scalable, comprehensive business management solutions that meet the specific needs of our larger and growing mid-market clients," said Bill Copeland, vice president of marketing for ACCPAC.

With the increasing convergence of IT and accounting functions, the Red Cross will use the Web as the dominant vehicle for the enterprise distribution of corporate information. Deployed on a cost-effective, high-performance virtual private network with Microsoft Terminal Server and MetaFrame, the ACCPAC for Windows system will offer remote connectivity to Canadian Red Cross employees at more than 30 sites across Canada. Employees will have real-time access to business-critical information stored on the main database, enabling them to determine the exact availability of relief funds that flood in from hundreds of thousands of banks and corporations. In addition, employees will be able to track statistical information and generate stored and ad-hoc reports-functions previously carried out by the IT department.

Recently ACCPAC for Windows 4.0 was selected as one of three finalists in the "Best Mid-Market Accounting/Financial Management Functionality" category for the Microsoft Industry Solution Awards. Its powerful flexibility and superior integration with industry standard Microsoft-centric technologies, demonstrated by ACCPAC`s ability to deliver scalable, enterprise-wide solutions for larger and growing clients like the Canadian Red Cross, was a key factor in this selection. The winner will be selected at Softworld in San Francisco, California on February 18, 1999.
