Canadians big on online banking
A recent survey by comScore shows that Canadians prefer to use online banking services more than any of the other 36 countries included in its survey, says DigitalJournal.com.
Canadians outperformed the UK, US and Australia by 18% to 25%, with two thirds of the Internet-using public utilising online banking.
The study derived its results from measuring unique visitors and pages viewed per visit. Although Canadian banks were then ranked according to these totals, the survey does not appear to have factored those visitors that have business with more than one financial entity.
Kenya bank goes online
NIC Bank in Kenya has unveiled an online system that allows its customers to access banking services for 24 hours and uploading of payments like salaries, pension, insurance, and suppliers' fees, reports Business Daily.
The service is an improvement on the previous one, which only enabled access to account statements. The premium online banking service is reportedly a first for Kenya and will allow customers to make online purchases, transfer funds and pay for utilities.
Analysts have singled out innovation as a key driver for growth in the banking sector, which is under pressure to diversify its income sources through commissions and fees, says the report.
ANZ caters for iPhone
ANZ, the Australian financial institution, has catered to those users about to buy an iPhone by introducing a new Internet banking service customised for the device, says Cnet.com.au.
The bank's Web site now has a "device recognition layer" that detects if Web surfers are using an iPhone.
If so, they are redirected to a Web page designed for the iPhone. The ANZ team has been working on the recognition layer and Web site over the last few months.
