Leading business and specialist application service provider (ASP), Candor Technologies has announced that it has secured a one-year ASP contract with MTU-South Africa managed by Daimler Chrysler Power Systems Off-Highway.
MTU Friedrichshafen is one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of large diesel engines and complete drive systems supplying diesel engines for marine propulsion, heavy vehicles, power generation and railroad applications.
The multimillion-rand deal is one of the first of its kind worldwide, offering Scala enterprise software on an ASP hosted basis. All of MTU SA`s mission-critical applications - ERP software suite as well as its financial backend - all reside on Candor`s central server farm. Candor also provides e-mail and Internet connectivity coupled with comprehensive backup, security and support services.
Candor`s Managing Director, Wido Schnabel, says: "The holistic ASP solution addressed many facets of MTU SA`s unique requirements. From bringing down the cost of dollar-based client-side licence fees right through to addressing the skills shortage needed to support the client`s highly specialised and intricate IT infrastructure on a national basis."
Schnabel continues to state that besides eliminating total reliance on an already limited IT resource pool and the expense of purchasing software outright, enterprises overseas are enjoying a significant return on investment. Adopting the client/server technology model has proven costly to deploy and maintain.
