Canon Europa, the regional headquarters for Canon Inc responsible for Europe, Russia, Africa and the Middle East, has invested in SA by establishing a wholly owned subsidiary with effect from 1 January 2000.
Canon SA will be responsible for Canon corporate and brand communication in the local market as well as assuming responsibility for the distribution for certain product groups, previously distributed by the current Canon distributor, Canoa Importers. These products include Canon bubble jet printers, scanners, bubble jet and laser faxes, calculators, PDAs, professional and amateur photo, video and imaging products, and printer and fax consumables.
Antony le Roux, general manager for sales and marketing at Canon SA, states, "Canon values its relationship with Canoa Importers which will continue to be the sole distributor for Canon analogue and digital copiers, colour laser copiers, and laser printers."
Canon will distribute products directly to retailers and mass merchandisers as well as to consumer electronics and photo dealers. The company has appointed two distributors for hardware sales to the IT reseller channel, namely Pinnacle Micro and TVR Computers. Le Roux adds, "Mustek Electronics has distribution rights for Canon`s portable printers and we are presently in discussing our ongoing relationship with them."
Three distributors, Cosi Distribution, Kolok (Pty) LTD and Siltek Distribution Dynamics have been appointed for Canon`s consumables and media products.
Le Roux concludes, "Canon has long term goals and strategies for the South African market and intends to develop sound relationships with partners in order to continue providing our products and services to all Canon users."
